There is a strange sense of freedom in rising to the surface, in shedding what had previously constrained and fatigued me, liberating my self from the feel of the cage that I had chosen to keep myself in so willingly.  The breaking of that surface is always painful in some degree, requiring a price that is worth the triumph that results from taking leave of of those constraining waters that hold us in thrall while we swim in their midst.
